A kandoko is a tally board with which a tally can be easily fixed on the wall using pushpinswhen people visit a Shinto shrine to celebrate life-stage events such as omiyamairi (event for praying for the health of a baby), sitigosan (event for 3-year-old boys and girls, 5-year-old boys and 7-year-old girls) and wedding ceremonies. To produce one of those, we have plentifully used kinrandonsu (top-quality textile fabrics being patterned using gold threads and gold foils) usually used for traditional costumes and colored its backing cloth in bright red used also for torii (Shinto gateways) in order to protect people from evils.
